Oy vey! There is finally a decent deli in the Southern Suburbs. This place filled a void in my heart that was created when Al's Deli in Homewood went out of business. I went a little crazy when I ordered - 1/2 corned beef sandwhich, chicken motza ball soup, side of potato pancake, egg cream and a black and white cookie. Don't judge me, I had just finished swimming extra laps so I could come here! I would order it all again except for the potato pancake but I sure liked having the option. Give it a try, Bubbie and Zadie would approve.

My Grandpa had been here and insisted I join him on his next visit. We came in, and were immediately and warmly greeted by two young men. Next, we must have looked at the menu for a good twenty minutes. The guys were so helpful, did not mind repeating what they'd said, or giving us a sample to see if we liked a certain item. When we were ready to order, they kept their sense of humor and smiled at us, sincerely grateful for our business. We were promptly served, and I enjoyed my sandwich, right along with the generous free refill of diet pop.

Happy to find Good Deli in South Chicagoland. Extensive sandwich menu. Hebrew ("the chosen") Beer. Games on TV. Wish they had booths though.

Great Sandwiches. Expect to spend about $10.

I judge all delis, especially those that claim "NY" in their name on the quality of their pastrami sandwich (ordered lean). Sadly, Bergstein's version came up wanting. The meat was barely warmed by the steamer, dry and devoid of flavor. The rye bread was pedestrian. Far more interesting was their special of "BBQ brisket nachos" - bbq brisket, melted cheddar cheese and scallions over a mound of house made potato chips. Not traditional deli food but it was really good. Others in my party did not enjoy the chicken noodle soup finding it bland. One seemed to like her chopped liver and turkey with thousand island dressing sandwich though.

Hello, FOOD SNOB here, Gotta say, not to many NY style deli's around here but this one sure seems like a good one. Matza Ball soup and Cabbage soup both tasted homemade. The cabbage soup had a unique sweet flavor which was very good. Both were filling. I had the Chopped Liver sandwich with raw onion. One word, Yummo. The menu said it came on a crispy Kaiser roll but instead came on rye bread. Did not realize it until later but was still good. Tasted the Reuben sandwich. Very authentic to me. Fresh Corn Beef and sauerkraut. Swiss Cheese and Mustard tasted had a unique taste. Very good. The lady who brought our food out was a little off. She had our orders mixed up but that's o k. My wife got a whole sandwich instead of the half she had orderd. Had the side of Potato Pancake. Real grated potatoes but just a little over cooked. Even the pickle on the side tasted like it came out of a Crock.

I just came back from New York a few week ago, and during that trip experienced deli's native NY'ers consider the best in town. I tried Bergstein's before my trip to NY, but decided to try it again as soon as I got back and the taste buds were fresh in my mind. And the verdict is in: Bergstein's is right up there. Bergstein's has a pretty robust menu. Still, I usually go with the corned beef, which is great and a bit less salty than that of AP Deli (a competitor in the area). With your sandwich, you get one of several sides (cole slaw, potato chips, potato salad, macaroni salad, potato pancake). I have only tried one, the macaroni salad, and its pretty darn good. Get this--Bergstein's also stocks individual Junior's Cheesecakes! Go shawty, its ya burfday! We gon pawty like....oh sorry.... Yeah, Bergstein's Deli--great set up, great menu, CLEAN everything, care is definitely taken in here and prices are reasonable. Final answer: excellent. Good talk.

My wife had never had a corned beef sandwich. It's been years since I've had one and couldn't think of a good spot. The one thing I knew, was that she must have one today! We reviewed a few spots on Yelp and found Bergstein's Deli was within 3 miles of our house. I went to their website and found that they originated from New York and knew this was the place. Bergstein's DID NOT disappoint! The food was GREAT and the service was even better! The staff was quite helpful in assisting us with our choice of the perfect sandwich. I remembered how much I love corned beef and "learned" that I actually am quite fond of pastrami!!! The Bensonhurst is my signature sandwich and they'll see me quite often in Bergstein's Deli.

I saw a lot of people commenting about price.... Maybe b/c it is in Chicago Heights, people shouldn't have to pay as much, but really people? Are your expecations of the Heights that low? I thought the prices were fine and pretty standard. I went today and ordered food to-go, and the special was brisket nachos for $5. I saw this and was soooo excited. For anyone who has ever gotten the BBQ nachos from Chuck's, you can understand why. Now I should know better than to compare since this is brisket and that is pulled pork and chicken.... and Chuck's is more Tex-Mex than Jewish, but hey, I couldn't help myself. You could choose bagel chips or homemade potato chips. I chose homemade potato chips. First big difference. I didn't mind them. Not so much for nachos, but they actually weren't bad. The brisket, however, I was sorely disappointed in. I imagine slices of brisket, not mashed up brisket..... The sauce was also too sweet for my tastes. Again, not their fault I don't like sweet BBQ sauce. No biggie at all since I know people like that. The nachos had sport peppers instead of jalepenos. I was pleasantly surprised as I am not a huge fan of jalepenos, but love sport peppers! Overall, they weren't bad, but the BBQ sauce and mushiness of the meat turned me off. I barely finished 1/4 of it. I also got a $5 tin of mac and cheese. I love mac and cheese. It is cold when it is given to-go. They make the mac and cheese, shred cheese and sprinkle bread crumbs on top and place it in the front display cooler. I hoped the bread crumbs were not soggy and since I was taking it home, it didn't bother me that it was cold b/c I just put it in the convection oven to warm thru and get the top crunchy. Not ideal for a microwave, one b/c you will have to put it in a different container (it's in a tin) and two, the crumbs won't be crunchy. That being said, I do wish they would have given heating instructions. I.e. oven for so many minutes. I kept checking it and it probably made it take longer to heat thru. haha. The mac and cheese was very good. The cheese flavor was very light. I'm guessing that the cheese on top was supposed to increase the cheesyness, but it really didn't... It was actually kind of weird tasting. Kind of a cross b/w staleness of the fridge and weirdly enough, freezer burn? Whatever it was, it would have been better with out the top. MUCH better. I also got the raspberry almond rugelach and bread pudding with brown sugar sauce. The bread pudding will be dessert later or tomorrow, again served cold for to-go in a tin. That will be easy to stick in the oven when I'm ready. I'll have to remember to update this when I try it. The rugelach was ok. The idea of raspberry was definitely there as it was red and sticky, but the flavor wasn't. I got no raspberry flavor at all. The almonds were tasty. The top was covered in white sugar, not baked on, but dumped on after. It was very small for $1.69. Probably should have been more like $0.99. Oh well, it wasn't awful. I'm sure the cinnamon and raisin or the chocolate would have been better. I will go back sometime. I do want to try these amazing sandwiches everyone is raving about. I will update this when I do. I really wanted it to be better, but I should have stuck with the deli stuff in a deli, not gone all rouge! :)

YUMMY!!!! Been there twice and wish I could go more. I live in Worth & am willing to travel to Chicago Heights for this deli. Corn beef is so tasty! The black & white cookies are a treat! The sandwiches are large and a great value. The menu is huge!!! So, much I want to try! Eating area is clean & well maintained. There always seems to be a steady stream of dine-in & carry out customers. Staff is friendly. Next weekend we are going to try to make it there for breakfast! Highly recommend.

This place filled a void that had existed for far too long in the area, a good NY-style deli. High quality and quick. Great place for lunch or dinner. Sandwiches could be a little bigger but I'm not about to complain. The Bensonhurst is always a good choice. Great staff and atmosphere.

I woke up this morning and had a taste for a corned beef sandwich. Northwest Indiana does not have to many options when it comes to Deli. My first instinct was to get in the car and drive an hour to Skokie but then my Dad told me about Bergstein's NY Delicatessen in Chicago Height's IL. Man he did me a huge favor. It was a nice clean place with a great menu. The portion's were pefect and the Corned Beef on Challa was excellent. The Salami on Challa just as delicious. I wanted to try the Matzos Ball soup but I didn't get the chance. I also walked out with some lox, bagles, and cream cheese. The resturant is the perfect size. Great for families. It's a little expensive but well worth it for good Deli. Can't wait to go back.

Bergstein's is good enough that my husband, who grew up in NY, is too busy stuffing his face to launch into a rant about what a real deli ought to be. The pastrami and corned beef are from Manny's, so the quality is excellent, and they make their own turkey and roast beef. The knishes are doughy, chewy fried rounds of artery clogging yumminess. Bagels are appropriately dense with a glossy finish that only come from boiling. I have a weakness for the salami, muenster, and fried egg breakfast sandwich, which is served any time. Plus, they make chocolate egg creams.

SO excited for the godforsaken South 'burbs to finally get a new, decent restaurant!! My p's still live in the area and it's getting harder and harder to go someplace worthwhile in the area. So, I love the whole concept of this place. It's cute, clean, convenient and the sevice is really considerate and earnest. That said, we weren't excited to have to order at the counter. I guess I was expecting something like The Bagel in Lakeview, or the old Al's Deli in Homewood, where they have/had table service. Anyway, you order at the counter from a huge menu, take a number and then they bring it out to your table. I didn't really see a deli case, so I couldn't see where the meat is coming from. Like, what kind of turkey do they use? They say it's homemade, but what does that mean? I got a salad and I must say, the homemade dressing was great. It's a little confusing to figure out which drinks they have and how much any of it costs, but they do have beer and wine. My mom said the lox was good. My dad liked his pastrami. We tried the ruggelah for dessert and...meh. It was all dough and too sweet. So that was a disappointment. Honestly, the best part of the entire experience was the bagel (which I had to order separately, as the salads don't come with any bread at all- booo!). This area absolutely has a dearth of real bagel shops so for that alone, I would be back. This bagel was everything it should be- crisp on on the outside, soft on the inside. They're pricey, though, at 99 cents apiece with no baker's dozen or half dozen specials. Wanted to also try a loaf of challah but didn't see any around. The mustard bottles on the table were all empty. And- we totally had to bus our own table. Really? That part was really kind of gross and cumbersome, since we'd ordered quite a lot. What is the tip jar for? LSS, I'll be back but I hope some of these kinks get ironed out. Extra points for staying open until 8 every day but Sunday!

OMJ-if you want great food at great prices, you have found your restaurant! Bergstein's NY Delicatessen offers the best salmon and whitefish salads that will leave you wanting more! The bagels are fresh, the pastries sweet, the meat lean, and the portions ENORMOUS! Everytime I frequent this gem of a deli, me and my wallet leave feeling full, and I have a huge smile on my face from the fantastic and friendly customer service.

So I'm always on the lookout for a good corned beef sandwich, as they are pretty hard to come by in the South suburbs....so I went to Bergstein's the other day for lunch. Fortunately it was a late lunch so I could peruse the extensive menu without feeling rushed....I got the Bensonhurst, which is corned beef AND pastrami on rye....it comes with Swiss, but I substituted Meunster......it was a good sandwich, but I have to say $10.00 was a bit pricey. It wasn't huge. It was okay sized. Oh, but the pickle was awful. One bite, and I threw it away. I got a fruit cup for my side, and it was very good. I would go back again. Just a little surprised at the downtown prices in Chicago Heights! Come on.

On a visit to NYC, I tried pastrami for the first time at Carnegie Deli. The sandwiches at Bergstein's are just about as delicious. I have had corned beef, pastrami and a lox platter. Yum yum yum. I also tried a black and white cookie here for the first time. Delicious! I think we might have tried the matzo ball soup on an off day because it was just okay.

  • Susan S.

Soup was awesome -would totally go back for that. Sandwiches are decent but Manny's in the city way better. Our sanchwich was small - decent but not worth the $10 we paid for it. Go for the soup if you are in the area.

  • Ice M.

There's no denying that the food is good but it's WAYYYYY too pricey. Would be a more frequent visitor ( and I suspect from reading other reviews, so would others) if the price reflected the quality and portion size of which it does NOT!

I went here on a mission: Get a corned beef sandwich and nothing more. Then I approached the deli counter and was almost swayed to changed my mind. ALMOST. I didn't know what to choose but the friendly employee behind the counter was gracious in letting me sample a few different meats. I stuck with corned beef on white bread with mustard and a pickle on the side, regularly priced at $7-$8. There's enough space to sit inside the clean, roomy restaurant but I took my sandwich to go. The sandwich was good, but I would make the trek to the southside A.P. Deli anyday, even though this is place right up the street from me. 1 Star for customer service, 1 Star for the welcoming atmosphere and 1 star for the sandwich; overall it's worth a try.

I had high expectations for this place after seeing it on one of the food shows. * My sandwich came to $10.39. I thought that was high. For that price I got a sandwich, a small container of cole slaw, a pickle slice and a couple of packs of mustard. * I thought the meat was fatty. I know fat is flavor but it was just too fatty for my tastes. You have to pay .75 extra to get it "lean." * The pickle "slice" was embarrassing for a deli. Envision a popsicle stick that is not even the length of a popsicle stick, wrapped in soggy wax paper. So what are my qualifications to judge a deli? Well, my dad used to take me to Bravermans on Chicago Avenue when I was a kid. The picture of their corned beef piled high on an Imperial bakery onion roll with the huge pickle on the side is etched in my head. I do have one positive to say, the bread in my sandwich was excellent. The cole slaw was fresh and crispy but lacked flavor. Service was pleasant and efficient. They also have a food truck in the city.

Excellent! My only complaint is they aren't closer to me. If Bergstein's was in my 'hood I'd be a frequent customer. Really enjoyed the soup/sandwich combo with matzo ball soup, tuna salad sandwich, and side of potato salad. For a complete meal, I paired that with a chocolate phosphate. Yum! The chocolate chip mandel bread is awesome and the chocolate chip macroons we got to go never made it home. :-)

Ok so I was in the neighborhood and saw the sign Bergstien's NY Deli. Since I couldn't go to Manny's over by Roosevelt Rd. I thought I'll try this place. Ordered a Pastrami on Rye and a potato pancake. I can't remember the last time I visited a deli in NY and was able to finish the sandwich. That speaks to the size of the sandwich at this place. Also seemed a little fatty. (I think you can ask for lean pastrami for an extra charge.) The potato pancake was super thin. Not very tasty. The price of the sandwich I guess is reasonable considering the size. I guess for the people in the south suburbs it's an ok place to get sandwiches but it didn't remind me of anything about NY. If you want a regular deli sandwich, stop on by. If you want a NY deli sandwich, go to fuckin New York cause you ain't getting one here.

A real Jewish style deli in the south suburbs. Bread was excellent, homemade. Meat great. Matzo ball soup the "real deal", not from a mix. Wonderful texture on matzah balls. The sandwiches come in giant and small (quarter pound) sizes. Knish was the only thing not top-notch, heavy and greasy. Lots of interesting other sandwiches. Nice job! (Addendum: we tried Manny's the next day, and was shocked to find we preferred the quality of the pastrami sandwich and matzoball soup at Bergstein's!)

  • Terri T.

The best kreplach soup I ever tasted!! I live in the city and when i visit my family in the South Suburbs I always make the effort to stop at Bergstein's NY deli for a bowel of soup and a quart to go. Yummy! They should add at least 1 more kreplach in the quart size to go. I would give them 5 stars for that!

I like delis and I like sandwiches that I know are probably bad for me. My wife brought me here and I had a really good sandwich - corn beef, brisket and pastrami, the BNY. I completely enjoyed it but it was almost 12.00. My wife says, of course because of all the meat! So I will stop complaining and be glad there is a deli close by. I also recommend the macaroni salad.

Wow never went wrong simply the best corned beef and potato pancakes. Kudos definitely a must try

If you know anything about me, or have read my reviews, you know I'm a huge carnivore. Honestly, who doesn't love meat?! I know, I know, that's what she said. But, it's true! Naturally as I was trying to decide between the corned beef or the pastrami offered at Bergstein's food truck, I was happy, nay DELIGHTED to see the Bensonhurst: corned beef AND pastrami with swiss on rye. You boys sure do know the way to a girl's heart. I may or may not have knocked over a few old ladies in my haste to get back to the office and eat my prize! But seriously, who wouldn't!? Double meat, people. Double meat. I don't know what some of the other reviews are talking about -- this sandwich was HUGE! I was in a serious food coma after eating this whole thing (because yes, I obviously ate the whole thing). More importantly though, it was absolutely fantastic. The meat had an amazing flavor and was very moist. Not sure where they get their bread from either, but it's delicious! I also got a latke which I ate (potatoes are my other true love in life, but shhhh, don't tell the meat), and think it would be really great if food trucks were allowed to heat food on their trucks (come on already, Chicago!!!). Keep up the great work, guys!

Doctors agree: Bergstein's NY Deli Chicken Noodle (and matzo ball, kreplach, etc) are better for coughs and sniffles - even stuffy noses!) than penicillin! Benn coming here for years. The sandwiches are fabulous, and the smoked whitefish salad is sublime! Oh, and don't forget the lox!

  • John T.

Great place in Chicago Heights. I have tried everything from the salads to the soups and sandwiches. Despite the fact that the restaurant is wonderful and the deli meat selection is great, the prices are really high for what you get in my opinion. Having been to many delis of this type, I truly do love this one. Again, only complaint is the higher than average prices.

  • Nancy V.

I can only say, they never disappoint! Just wish they were closer to home. I'd be there all the time! So glad I found you Bergstein's!! And did I mention the free WIFI? Some of the huge national chains don't offer free WIFI!!

The corn beef sandwich was great. They give a nice helping of corn breef. The bread was fresh and the potato salad was tasty. We will visit them often.

I have been eating here for a long time now. I can say they FINALLY got someone in the back who knows how to cook ladkes now! When we ordered them before they always come out burnt, the last two times they were actually good. The portions here do match the price, their Lox are consistantly good, the chopped liver is a combination of beef and chicken liver, and when we go we almost always bring stuff home to eat. I do recommend that if you come here, come at an off time as often the line will reach out the door for lunch.

As a deli "foodie". This place is fair to midland. I give Carnegie deli in NyC a 10, Bergsteins a solid 3. Ordered a Rubin. Corned beef was just ok, sandwich was cold... Not toasted... Hey Rubens are supposd to be melted Swiss and toasted rye... Mish mosh... Meh ... So so... Seriously, Chicago land has many other "real" Jewish deli's that are truly superior. Good news, you can get food on Sunday morning... No line, no wait... Almost no customers. That ought to tell you something.

Wow wow wow!!! Hands down "The Moskowich" is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had, and that is saying a lot from a person who eats a lot of damn good sandwiches!! Each slice of beef and turkey is perfectly laid on top of one another at the right temperature, add Melted cheese, cole slaw and the infamous Russian dressing and you have this masterpiece. It was wrapped flawlessly and served perfectly. Will come back again for this whenever in the suburbs!

  • Jessica T.

Seriously, so delicious. I am so mad I am just now discovering this place. The sandwiches are prepared with fresh ingredients (and they are not skimpy on the ingredients either). My sandwich tasted so fresh! The chips were great, perfectly salted. The staff was very friendly. This place is my new favorite. Everything is kosher, so you KNOW it's good. A must try for anyone in the area.

It's a bit of a haul from my house, but well worth the drive. Huge sandwiches, homemade chips and delicious soups await you at Bergstein's. They are pricey. I couldn't afford it every day, but don't mind once in a while. Salads are good, also a nice choice of breads. Soup is the best! Kreplach sounds weird, but it's damn good. If they happen to have Cream of Chicken, do yourself a favor and get a quart to go. It doesn't get better than that. My go to 'sangwich' is the Southsider, beef and turkey. Also they have a beer called the HeBrew. I haven't drank it, but I enjoy the name.

First, let me say that I really wanted to like this place. But, it fell woefully short on a number of points. I ordered a bowl of matzoh ball soup. It came out piping hot, with one fairly large matzoh ball. While some folks like their matzoh ball soft, I prefer the more firm style. This was very soft and fell apart as you spooned into it. The soup was fairly tasty overall, but not like Grandma used to make. 4 out of 5 stars for the soup. Potato knish: a big fail! Fairly large with a mealy, potato stuffing, with little taste. The worst of this was the fact it was deep fried (arn't these supposed to be baked?) and the grease they used to fry this was old, rancid and gave the entire knish an awful spoiled taste. Terrible! Zero stars. Potato pancakes: average. 3 small cakes filled with a flavorful stuffing served with sour cream or Apple sauce. This was probably the best item that we ordered. Another 4 out of 5 stars. Roast beef sandwich: mediocre at best. Nothing to write home about. Better quality than subway, but expected so much more. 3 out of 5 stars. Cole slaw: not very creamy. Basically tasted just the cabbage. Again, a mediocre item. 3 out of 5 stars. Service: good. Pleasant staff, quickly prepared. We will probably give this place one more try and order different items. Just won't be happening anytime soon.

This place was awesome! The pastrami sandwhich was delicious and piled high. I would highly suggest applying the special mustard to it that is available at each table. I got potato pancakes, they give you two per order. They are a little smaller than the ones you usually come accross but that makes them better because a smaller one is usually better cooked. Both potato pancakes were damn good. The home made chips were splendid! This place is definately a diamond in the rough shoved all the way in crappy Chicago Heights.

Yum. Yum yum yum. Serious deli eats in the southern burbs. Get the Rachel. It will be worth it. The salads are as big as my head, and I have a larger than standard cranium! The service is always stellar. They have started to have a small beer selection. The baked goods are phenomenal. It's hidden in plain sight, and definitely worth a drop by.

I've now been going to this place at least once a month, and it is located out of the way for me. A few months ago I was about 5 minutes from my house after a 2 hour trip home, I rolled right past and drove the extra half hour straight to Bergstein's deli. At this point I've only tried two other sandwiches because the Smoke Daddy and BNY are so good I have a hard time ordering anything else whenever I make my way over there. I had absolutely no choice but to bump my rating up to 5 stars, I might even have to lower some other ratings so you guys know I'm serious here.

I am a native New Yorker transplant. I often visit this place for hot and cold deli sandwiches as well as the black and white cookies. I have introduced this place to friend and family in the past week now frequent here too.

Jewish delis are few and far between out here on the south side, so when Bergstein's opened up I was thrilled. All the food here is delicious and fresh. The staff are very friendly. Some of my favorite things on their menu are the SoVo sandwich, onion bialy with cream cheese, the lox platter, chopped liver, kishka, and of course a black and white cookie. This place also sells Doc Brown's soda pop, so I always make sure to buy a few cans of the cel-ray flavor.

As a recently transplanted Jewish New Yorker and self labeled NY food snob, I feel like I am a tough critic. I drove by this place going to a job interview around the corner. I had to go in and give it a shot. It was early in the morning so I unfortunately did not get a sandwich or anything. I have two major criteria when it comes to a real NY deli. They are... 1) Dr. Browns soda and 2) black and white cookies. I got a knish a cookie and a soda. All were very good. I'd like to go back sometime and get a pastrami on rye. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Only had bagel and potato pancakes but both were excellent. Husband had the lox platter, he loved his as well and it is near impossible to find one in the south suburbs so we will definitely be back. Staff was very helpful and pleasant.

So i had a craving for a corned beef sandwich and the AP deli i usually go to has moved...damn...so i went to my trusty yelp app and Bergenstein deli had great reviews. Road trip! Upon entering the deli i was met with a line...so to me that's a good sign. I ordered the pastrami, corned beef and brisket on an onion roll....it is a name for it but i forgot....it was really good...only thing i wish was it had more meat for 12 dollars....no im NOT cheap but i would have like to have eaten half of the sandwich and not the whole damn thing to get full for that price... Would i be back? Yes but i will skip the potato chips because most of mine were too brown...

Great go-to deli in the South Suburbs . . . I usually will not eat Tunafish Salad anywhere other than the one that i make myself. However, Bergstein's is most excellent and soups are the bomb!

Your matzo ball soup is quite dreamy!!!! I'm not sure whose Grandma's back there cooking up a big pot, but she deserves a hug! It's the most perfect thing to eat on a cold, stressful day.

This place is pricey but it very tasty. The Matzoh ball soup was delish as well as the pastrami sandwich. The bagel chips were great along with the Dr. Brown soda. I would eat here more often if the prices went down or if they offered more of a bagel variety

First time here. Little pricey, but a great sandwich. I had the Bensonhurst. Fantastic. They were out of take out menus, but the do have a website.

Expected more out of this food truck. Had it at a food truck gallery in Chicago and they had a special for $5 (half sandwich and pickle). Since they ran out of pickles they gave us a free side (not complaining!). We got the homemade chips which were pretty good. The sandwich was a bit soggy from hangin out in the truck all day, but tasted pretty okay.

I had the Second City and it was great just what I wanted. Simple salami and turkey sandwich plain. The black & white cookies are my favorite!

Everything I've had has been delicious and fresh, from the challah to the egg salad! Great that they also serve beer. Service is quick and friendly. Sandwiches are the best in the south suburbs.

Well, I made it for breakfast the other day but could not resist the chopped liver. Still have to return for the lox...

You wont find a better place to eat in the south suburbs. Sandwiches are big enough for the biggest of eaters. Large variety of sandwiches, salads, wraps, and more. The soup and deserts are fantastic as well. I frequently visit this place and am never disappointed.

There are an astounding number of people complaining about the price of the food, not realizing the whole idea of something being more expensive because it is hard to come by. If you don't want to spend ten dollars for a New York style deli sandwich piled HIGH with absolutely perfect quality meats, your best bet is to not live in the fuckin' suburbs of Chicago. Go to New York, and quit your bitching! Bergstein's is the best. I've never actually been to New York, but here are nights where I wake up with serious cravings for the food that Bergstein's offers. I've tried about a half dozen of their sandwiches, and I have never been disappointed. The price is high, sure, but you're paying for quality. If you want food that tastes like $3, there is a McDonald's about two blocks east. If you want to eat good sandwiches, black & white cookies, and bring home some fresh deli meat, Bergstein's will cost you more, as it should. They also offer some beer, although not on tap. There is Kosher beer, such as "He'brew", as well as Robert the Bruce from Three Floyds Brewery in Munster, and Mad Hatter IPA. The bottles cost more than that ought to, but I'm not generally the type to order a beer with a deli sandwich, so it doesn't affect me much. Go with a can of Dr. Brown's Cream Soda instead. There is one sandwich called Lou's Second City, which is salami, turkey, and muenster cheese on a pretzel roll. It's outstanding. I also love the Bensonhurst, whch is a simple pastrami and corned beef on rye with swiss cheese. The Moskowich is spectacular, with hot turkey, corned beef, coleslaw, muenster cheese and thousand island on challah bread. If you're looking for a cheap meal, look elsewhere. If you don't mind paying a bit more for actually good food, go here. People rating this place down because it's not as cheap as Taco Bell are idiots. Quality is quality. Bergstein's is quality.

Bergsteins will satisfy your need for real jewish ny deli food. We got a little bit of everything....,reuben, bensonhurst, kishka, latke, mish mosh soup and black and white cookies.....everything was great. Is it pricey? Sure....corned beef, pastrami, brisket, etc are pricey at the grocery so why wouldnt they be at a deli. Cant wait to go back for their fishier delights....whitefish salad, smoked salmon salad, lox....also they have something they call Ray Charles macaroni and cheese. I am quite intrigued. Ray charles? Hmmmmm

Not ever had anything that wasn't first rate here. The soups are outstanding, kreplach is good but I usually stick with the Matza ball. Great cuts of meat, roast beef, pastrami, corned beef and the chopped liver is a fav. Friendly and inviting atmosphere also the latke's are yummy.
